The Project

In the first year of my study we got the assignment to create a poster that showed what the study means for us as an individual.

The Process

To initiate the creative process, I began by brainstorming the key messages I wished to convey through the poster. I compiled a list of words and concepts associated with my study, using them as the foundation for my visual exploration. Recognizing a recurring pattern in my approach to concept development, I decided to spotlight this methodology—an integral aspect of my learning journey.

The idea of framing this process within a building emerged during my search for inspiration online. Through a series of iterations and adjustments, I fine-tuned the depiction of each stage, ensuring clarity and coherence in the overall narrative. The process involved a degree of experimentation and refinement, but ultimately led to a design that resonated with my vision and effectively communicated the essence of my study. By weaving together these elements, I crafted a visual narrative that not only captures the essence of my creative process but also serves as a testament to the iterative nature of design exploration and refinement.

The Design

The poster depicts a concept known as "The CMD House," which serves as a metaphor for the design process. Imagine a house with multiple floors and rooms, each representing a different stage of the design journey. The title, "The CMD House," is chosen to reflect both the field of study and the model being presented. At the top, there's an attic filled with cobwebs, symbolizing the initial musings and small inspirations that kickstart the creative process. As you descend through the floors, you encounter various rooms, each with its own purpose.

On the upper floors, you find rooms dedicated to research, ideation, and collaboration. The library room represents research, where one delves into literature and existing studies. The room with posters and notes signifies ideation, where ideas are generated and refined. Additionally, a character with binoculars symbolizes empathy, while another character in the shower represents the birth of brilliant ideas in moments of relaxation. Moving down to the ground floor, you reach the culmination of the design process. Here, the prototype is presented and discussed with the team. All the characters from the upper floors gather here, signifying the convergence of ideas and efforts.

The intention is to stimulate the viewer's thought process and encourage them to find connections between the images and the title, "The CMD House." The poster also draws inspiration from models like the Stanford d.school Design Thinking Process and the "Double Diamond" model. These models are represented through the progression of rooms, each corresponding to a phase of the design process. Overall, "The CMD House" offers a visual representation of the design journey, from the initial spark of inspiration to the presentation of the final prototype, inviting viewers to explore and engage with the creative process.
